Automotive Sealing Solutions for OEMs and Tier Suppliers

In an industry defined by precision, performance, and constant innovation, even the smallest components can make the biggest difference.

Automotive sealing solutions play a critical role in protecting vehicles from the elements, reducing noise and vibration, and ensuring long-term reliability across every system.

For manufacturers and suppliers striving to meet demanding quality standards, the right sealing materials and expertise safeguard performance, comfort, and brand reputation.

With over 50 years of expertise, we craft automotive sealing solutions that combine precision, durability, and innovation to meet the exact needs of every industry.

Meet the Partner for High-Performance Sealing

At Ramsay, you’ll find over 50 years of material, process and application knowledge dedicated to custom solutions in rubber, sponge, foam, cork and felt.

Our capabilities span die-cut gaskets, adhesive strips, pads, rolls, and custom assemblies, all tuned to the automotive sector’s delivery, quality (IATF 16949, ISO 14001) and cost demands.

What Automotive Sealing Solutions Looks Like in Action

  • Water and dust ingress prevention: For an air-conditioning unit in an automobile, an adhesive gasket in polyethylene foam seals out environmental elements, protecting internal assemblies and ensuring longevity.

  • NVH & acoustic performance: A dashboard or console may incorporate a Nitto foam adhesive strip to seal the interface and provide acoustic dampening (minimising whine, vibration, rattle).

  • Fuel-tank & chemical resistance: In one case, a neoprene-blend adhesive pad provided sealing plus NVH control around a fuel-tank; the material’s petrochemical resistance makes the difference.

  • Roof systems and structural seals: An EPDM sponge adhesive gasket applied to a roof system provides protection against water ingress under dynamic motion and thermal cycles.

These examples show how automotive sealing solutions must do more than “just seal.” They must:

  • adapt to multi-material assemblies (metal, composite, plastic)

  • handle wide temperature ranges and chemical exposures

  • support lightweighting by offering high performance at lower mass

  • integrate seamlessly with automation and high-volume assembly

Why Material Choice and Manufacturing Matter

The difference between a mediocre gasket and a best-in-class sealing solution often lies in the materials: EPDM vs neoprene vs nitrile; sponge vs foam vs solid; adhesive vs non-adhesive.

Ramsay lists a wide selection: solid rubber (butyl, EPDM, nitrile, silicone), sponge rubber (EPDM sponge, neoprene blend), foams (ECOcell, Nitto foam), cork and felt options.

Why is that material range important? Because in automotive, one size definitely does not fit all. A seal around a high-temperature engine bay needs very different properties than a dashboard interface, or a battery module in an EV.

Likewise, manufacturing capabilities must align with the demands of high-volume automotive production. Ramsay emphasises “custom widths, lengths, thicknesses and densities” for their sealing solutions.

So when you’re specifying automotive sealing solutions, ask:

  • Can the material be tailored to my geometry and force/deflection requirements?

  • Does the supplier support the high-volume automotive supply-chain (OTIF, quality standards, global reach)?

  • Is the material system compliant with automotive material data requirements

Designing for the Future

As vehicles shift toward electrification and autonomous systems, sealing demands are evolving.

Battery modules need specialised sealing to manage thermal runaway, ingress protection, and structural load transfer.

Interiors are becoming quieter still, meaning acoustic seals are ever-more critical.

Lightweight body‐in-white assemblies call for thinner, higher-performance seals with minimal weight penalty.
